Perigee Moon

Tonight was the night that the moon was going to be the closest to the earth for another 19 years.  That meant it was supposed to appear larger.  Determined as I was to capture this, I set out with a friend after an early dinner to set up our tripods and cameras in readiness for the big event.  Our biggest concern was a potential cloud cover.  There were scattered, thin clouds and sure enough, they remained on the horizon as the moon rose.  But we snapped away regardless.  However, I've seen larger appearing moon rises in the past.  Maybe it was the clouds and haze in the sky, but we weren't impressed!  So much for all the hype.

Tonight's Moonrise

Moonrise in the desert is constantly changing.  One month it might be orange, another blue.  But the desert landscape always adds drama.

Desert Moonrise

It's a full moon tonight and the clouds were billowing in the east just at the moon was coming up.  Perfect timing.  The rose of the sunset created a nice backdrop for the moon.

Spring Moon

I'm thankful my friend called me this evening or I would have missed this beautiful orange moon. This would normally be called a Harvest Moon but tonight we received a real treat.

Rising Moon

Every so often we get a spectacular moon rise. And this was no exception. Night time digital photography can be challenging so I took my chances when I spotted this shot.
