French Windowsill

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Medieval towns were short on yards.  In fact, they usually didn't have any so if you want flowers, you have to grow them in pots on the windowsill.  And they do a nice job.  Begonias, amarylis and geraniums add bright colors to an otherwise bland house.

Waiting for the Mail

Mail boxes in Italy are so much more interesting than ours. And I think geraniums are the most popular flower for potted plants.

Roses and Lace

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

French windowsills in the countryside are alive with flowers. Geraniums and amaryllis were quite popular but I found these dainty roses in the bastide town of Monpazier in the Dordogne region.

White Geraniuim

Friday, March 6, 2009

A favorite flower of cities in the area where I live is the geranium. They are hardy, bloom prolifically and provide vibrant color contrasts along divider strips and medians.
