Knock, Knock

Wednesday, May 25, 2011
Even though there's a door bell, I think you're going to have to use the door knocker.  It's apparent the bell has been painted over a time or two.

Vicious Door Knocker

Thursday, March 31, 2011
Having this character as a door knocker would be enough to scare away most peddlers and solicitors.  He looks pretty mean.  I wonder if it really works?

Cracked Knocker

Friday, October 8, 2010
I'm always on the look out for unusual door knockers.  And Italy has lots of them .  I spotted this one in Siena.  But it's the first one I've seen that is actually cracked in half.  Not sure what kind of knocking  it would take to crack a piece of thick brass but here's the proof.

Italian Green

Saturday, June 19, 2010
Every time I"m in Europe I look for door knobs and knockers.  The variety, condition and the doors they're on are factinating.  So far the Italians have better looking doors than the French.  They also have some pretty good looking knockers. This ornament is both functional and decorative and something you don't see too much of here in the states.  Too bad, they give a house personality.

The Green Door

Saturday, May 22, 2010
Italian door knockers are an elaborate and decorative presentation to those arriving at a home.  I'm not sure if there's a correlation to the the knocker and what's behind the door.  I guess my next adventure will require me to use them to find out.  An interesting concept.

Knock on My Door

Friday, January 15, 2010

I've taken an interest in Eurpoean door knockers.  I was amazed at the variety, size and subject matter.  Even though they have door bells like we do, door knockers are part of the door decor on must European homes.

Roman Door Knocker

Monday, September 21, 2009

I started taking pictures of door knockers when I was in France earlier this year. Then it became an obsession by the time I traveled to Italy. But I must say one thing. Italy wins hands down. More unique styles and a wider variety of doors.

Knockers of Bordeaux

Thursday, July 9, 2009

While in France this year, I decided to take photos of door knobs and knockers. Well, there were a lot more styles and designs than I was prepared for. But it was fun and gave me a challenge to see how many different ones I could find.
