Anazasi Newspaper

Sunday, August 1, 2010
I'm not sure exactly what the message is in this petroglyph but it looks to me that the horse on the left has been running in a figure eight, going nowhere, while the horse on the right is turning his back and heading out.  What do you think?

Giddyup

Artist friends, Tim and Rick Vigallon, created these beautiful galloping horses in metal.  The entire panel is 8' long and makes a dramatic statement.  These talented brothers design a myriad of subjects in metal, some just burnished and others coated in exciting colors.  If you're interested in their work you can see it at http://www.vigall-art.com/

San Raphael Valley

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

I always think of Arizona as state with lots of cactus and red rocks. They do have plenty of that but the other day I saw another side of the "Grand Canyon State". We drove through the small rural town of Patagonia, south of Tucson, then headed east on a dirt road into this wonderful valley of grassland. No telephone poles or cell towers. Just plenty of cattle, horses, clean air and spectacular blue skies. Taking the road less traveled certainly has its rewards.

Late Afternoon Ride

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Canyon de Chelly is a special place to spend time and enjoy it's beauty. A small and quiet canyon on Navajo land in northeastern Arizona, the abrupt vertical rise of the canyon walls appears even larger when compared to the horses and riders.

Look, We're Both Flying!

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Pretty soon it'll be polo season here in the desert so I dusted off a image from last year. I don't know how I managed to capture both horses without having their hooves touching the ground. And who said horses couldn't fly?

Horses in the Canyon

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Canyon de Chelly is a favorite spot of mine. Home of the ancient Anasazi and Navajo, this spectacular location is an artist's delight. Everywhere you turn there's a painting. Now part of the National Park System, Canyon de Chelly is co-managed with the U.S. Park Service and the Navajo Nation. I've taken artists into the canyon for week long painting trips and each time I go I am awed by it's beauty. We pack in on horseback and on our ride out came upon this group of wild horses.
