Red Dahlia

Wednesday, July 21, 2010
Dahlias don't grow too well here in the desert so when I find some I jump at the chance to photograph them.  This one was such a rich, deep red I was in heaven.

Yellow Splash

Wednesday, May 12, 2010
Summer's on it's way and this bright yellow dahlia serves as a reminder of the colors to come.  That's the best part of summer, all the flowers and fragrances.

Trimmed in Purple

Dahlias come in many colors, sizes and shapes.  I found these in the garden at the Getty Center in L.A.  My climate is a little too warm to grow them successfully.

Afternoon Spotlight

Sunday, August 2, 2009

What better place to teach drawing classes than in the Getty Museum garden? The flowers were in full bloom and when the late afternoon sun kisses them there are some unique lighting conditions. This was one of them.

Orange Delight

Sunday, February 8, 2009

Butchart Gardens in Victoria, BC is a gardener's dream come true. And for one who lives in the desert, the begonias, lilies and dahlias are a real treat to see.

Red flowers have, at times, presented photographic challenges. So I was happy when these red dahlias turned out with great contrasts.
