Venetian Lights

Wednesday, November 3, 2010
Every morning I looked down from my hotel room on these hand blown lights, still on by the way.  They were part of a restaurant below my hotel in Venice and every night they took down the canopies and removed the tablecloths.  And every morning they replaced everything.  But the sun shining through the colored glass was beautiful.

Where's the Rain?

Monday, October 18, 2010
It was a beautiful sunny day, not a cloud in the sky, and suddenly there were hoards of tourists with umbrellas.  It wasn't hot but this group of Japanese tourists were merely protecting themselves from the sun.  But seeing this mass of umbrellas as they walked along the basin near St. Mark's Piazza in Venice was certainly a sight.

Venetian Gondoliers

Wednesday, September 22, 2010
Nothing is more typically Venetian than gondoliers in striped shirts and straw hats. These two are obviously deep in conversation. But today, it seemed that all of them were out giving tourists a ride down the canals.

The Lion of Venice

Saturday, July 3, 2010
The pigeon has a great view but he's looking the wrong way.  The lion's facing the entranace to the harbor, watching out for the Venetians.  He sits atop a tall column, guarding the citizens.
