White Purity

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

I usually make a pilgrimage each spring to visit Descanso Gardens in La Canada, CA. The tulips are in bloom, camellia bushes as big as trees are covered with flowers and the roses and irises are starting to strut their stuff. But this is the first time I've ventured to the gardens in the middle of summer. And was I surprised. There's been a lack of attention to the garden and things weren't looking to good. But I was able to spot these lilies hiding in a back corner. At least there was one joyous moment to my trip.

Summer Color

Our summers are pretty hot in the desert and fresh flowers don't always do well in the house either. But I couldn't resist these rose colored lilies. They're bright and happy which always brightens my spirits in the heat.

Pink Lily

I'm a sucker for flowers. I guess that's why I love to paint them. But this is one I haven't attempted to paint yet. So after finding this gem hidden amongst my Canadian garden photos, I think I have my inspiration.
