Date Harvest

Friday, October 30, 2009

It's the end of the harvest season and I was surprised to find a grove of dates that hadn't been picked yet.  The Coachella Valley is the largest date producing region in the United States.  And we have all kinds;  Deglet Noor, Barhi, Blondes, Brunettes, Zahadi and my favorite - Medjools.  Date trees can bear fruit for over 100 years.

Sunset on the Rice Paddies

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

An artist friend and I were driving around the southern end of the Coachella Valley this evening looking for subjects to draw when I spotted this sunset on flooded rice fields. Too good to pass up.

Snow in the Desert

Thursday, December 18, 2008

Remember, I promised you more snow? It rained all day yesterday and it was cold. That meant we should have snow. And I wasn't disappointed. This morning I awoke to a sunny day and snow on all the mountains surrounding the Coachella Valley. This is a view from my driveway. Looking southwest. I felt I could reach out and touch the hills it was so clear. By this afternoon a lot of the snow had melted but what a sight we had this morning.
