The wildflowers are starting to bloom, albeit slowly, but you can find both these Desert Poppies, Eschscholizia parishii, and the Arroyo lupines, Lupinus sparisflorus, in the Box Canyon area just outside the small town of Mecca, California. They make a beautiful and dramatic combination with the yellows against the blues. Time to dust off those cameras and take a road trip.

Pretty 'n Pink

I love spring. I love the flowers that the warm weather brings and the wonderful fragrances of the blossoms. I don't like the allergies but it's a small price to pay for Mother Nature's beauty.

Colors of the Sunset

Nature's palette comes fully loaded. This hibiscus, beautifully tinged with coral around a vibrant pink, is just a sampling of the wide range of colors to be found. I couldn't have painted it better if I tried. That's what's so intriguing about using flowers as my primary subject. They always inspire me.

At the Farmer's Market
Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 5:24 PMFarmer's markets have become a hot boutique item here in the desert. We now have three, each open on a different day, providing locally grown produce (usually withing a 50 mile area). Today was my first visit. It was small but had plenty of selections. Organic herbs, fresh flowers, vegetables, dates and even a performance by the Boys and Girls Club Band. A great way to spend a leisurely morning.
