After the Shower

Freshly washed flowers after a rain have a pristine quality about them. This calla lily, on a side alley in Eymet, France, seems to sparkle in cleanliness after a morning rain.

French Windowsill

Medieval towns were short on yards.  In fact, they usually didn't have any so if you want flowers, you have to grow them in pots on the windowsill.  And they do a nice job.  Begonias, amarylis and geraniums add bright colors to an otherwise bland house.

Real Men Know How to Knit

For the last two years, this Frenchman sat patiently and knitted while his wife sold yarns and other goods for knitters at the weekly market in Eymet, France.  I never saw the finished product but it looks like he's doing a pretty good job.

Eymet Windowsill

Walking the back alleys in a Medieval town offers many treasures. I spotted this array of plants the first day we walked around Eymet, France. But it was a rainy day and the colors were dark and drab. The last day we were in town the sun was out and I had to walk through several alleys until I found the "windowsill".

Lone Rose in Eymet

I took a walk along the back streets and alleys of Eymet when I was in France and came upon this lone rose, doing it's best to put on a good show. Someone has lovingly tied it up, hoping to make it a climber.

Market Day in Eymet

We walked into town this morning to check out the local market. Eymet is a Bastide town (planned design with a square) and it's Thursday morning market has been ongoing since the year 1270. It has never missed a day. Not through the Hundred Years War, both World Wars or any other war for that matter. These olives were wonderful. Nothing like we have back home.

Peonies of Eymet

We had two classes today in addition to walking into town. With all this wonderful French food we're eating the exercise is good for all of us. I took the opportunity on the way in to get shots of the tiny things; wild orchids, bugs and dragon flies in addition to a few larger critters such as cows and horses, even a neighborly dog. But these peonies were absolutely ravishing. They don't grow in the desert where I live so I'm enjoying the opporotunity to photograph them.

Even Bird Houses Have Bird Houses

It was raining as we walked into the small bastide town of Eymet this morning. On the way we passed this interesting bird house. Note what's hanging below it.
