Christmas in Gibraltar

Thursday, December 23, 2010
I think this was the scraggliest Santa I've ever seen.  Yes, the hair and beard are real but I think a wig would have looked better.  Being a melting pot of cultures, we saw a little of everything in this tiny British commonwealth.

Tired of Shopping

Friday, October 17, 2008

Gibraltar is a melting pot of cultures. It is only four miles across the Mediterranean Sea to Africa and is surrounded by Spain on the land side. This gentleman was obviously waiting. But was that his purchase at his feet or someone else's?

Patriotic Taxis

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

While waiting to disembark from our cruise ship in Gibraltar (that small piece of land at the mouth of the Mediterranean Sea), I looked over the ships' railing and spotted these taxis patiently waiting to shuttle passengers to town. I was struck by the red, white and one lone blue vehicle, neatly lined up, very orderly. So very British.
